“Sai Sarovar” Book & Author Overview

The book “Shri Sai Sarovar” was written by late Shri Maganlal Tapidas Jarmanwala, a well-known author and freedom fighter. The purpose of the book was to spread the stories of Sai Baba, His love, grace, and the miraculous events that occurred in Shirdi while Sai Baba was lived in flesh and blood.

The first edition consisting of two parts of the book, totaling 1,500 pages, were initially distributed for free, but unfortunately, most of them reached non-devotees or those who were not serious about Sai Baba’s miracles. When demand came from genuine devotees, there were no copies left. This led to the establishment of rules that prevented free distribution, except to charitable trusts and temple libraries. Some devotees later donated funds, and the complete four-part book was published in July 1987.

Shri Maganlal Tapidas Jarmanwala, despite facing poverty and personal hardships, had a strong desire to become a writer from a young age. He actively participated in India’s freedom movement and was awarded a trophy by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for his patriotism. He wrote numerous books on spirituality and other subjects throughout his life.

“Shri Sai Sarovar” is considered the largest treatise on the life and teachings of Sai Baba in the Gujarati language. The book provides detailed accounts of Sai Baba’s life, including dates, times, and horoscopes for various events. The author conducted extensive research on Sai Baba’s biography and included incidents related to other saints, disciples, and devotees of Sai Baba. The book also features stories and biographies of other spiritual figures, such as Godavari Maa, Shri Rang Avadhut Maharaj, Sant Shri Girnariji, and many others.

The author obtained valuable information from various sources, including the diary titled “Shirdi Diary” (to be shared soon) written by Shri Ganesh Rao Krishna Rao Khaparde, which described daily activities in Shirdi during the early 1900s. He also received information from Shri Mahalsapati, Shri Balaji Pilaji Gurav, and the families of devotees like Shri. Madhavrao Deshpande, Shri. Dasganu Maharaj, and Shri. Nanasaheb Chandorkar. The book also includes accounts of women devotees, expressions of animals and insects, and stories of other saints and great souls.

The author’s children feel proud to be born to a patriot freedom fighter and spiritual writer like Shri Maganlal Tapidas Jarmanwala. The book “Shri Sai Sarovar” is a precious and divine gift to Sai devotees, created with the guidance and motivation provided by Sai Baba Himself. The author emphasizes that nothing in the book is added from his own imagination and that faith and patience in Sai Baba are the only prerequisites for its understanding.

The book received high praise and recognition, and the author was awarded the title of “Shri Sai Sahitya Ratna” at the Akhil Bharatiya Sai Bhakta Sammelan held in Jabalpur in 1990. The author’s meticulous research and detailed descriptions make “Shri Sai Sarovar” a unique composition among the books written on Sai Baba.
